Case Study – Sanjay*

November 27, 2017 - In Case Studies, News Articles

Sanjay is an asylum seeker from Asia who was housed by Nottingham Arimathea Trust at the end of 2014. He had been having multiple issues communicating with his solicitors who he had paid money to represent him but had done very little work on his fresh claim. With advocacy from support workers at Arimathea the law firm agreed to designate a new caseworker to Sanjay and ensure that his fresh claim was persued as a priority. Support workers also attended legal appointments with Sanjay to make sure that he was doing everything he could to support his own application and that he understood the process. In addition, Sanjay had health issues resulting from an assault in London several years ago and we helped him to access the necessary health care by attending GP appointments with him. At the end of 2015 Sanjay’s solicitor had completed all of the work necessary for his fresh claim and had booked him an appointment in Liverpool to submit his documents. We then referred Sanjay to Migrant Help supported him with moving into Section 4 accommodation.  He is still awaiting the outcome of his further submissions.
